Kia EV6: Knee Airbag (KAB) Module

Description

The Knee Airbag (KAB) module installed at the bottom of the crash pad lower panel on the driver's side protects the driver in case of a front collision. The SRS control module determines when the Knee airbag (KAB) is deployed.

Direct resistance measurement of the airbag module is very dangerous as it can cause the airbag deployment.

Removal

• When working on the high voltage system, the work should be performed by technicians who have completed the relevant training. A lack of understanding of the high voltage system can lead to serious accidents due to electric shock or short circuit.

• When working on the high voltage system or related components, be sure to observe and be aware of the "Safety Precautions, Cautions and Warnings". If not, it may cause serious accidents due to electric shock or short circuit.

• When working on high voltage system, make sure to check the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and high voltage shut-off procedure.

1.Disconnect the battery negative ( - ) terminal and the service interlock connector.(Refer to Battery Control System - "Auxiliary 12 V Battery - 2WD")(Refer to Battery Control System - "Auxiliary 12 V Battery - 4WD")

2.Remove the crash pad lower panel.(Refer to Body - "Crash Pad Panel")

3.Disconnect the Knee Airbag (KAB) module connector (A).

4.Remove the Knee Airbag (KAB) module (A) after removing the nuts.

Tightening torque :5.9 - 7.8 N·m (0.6 - 0.8 kgf·m, 4.3 - 5.8 lb·ft, 52.1 - 69.4 lb·in)

Installation

1.Install in reverse order of removal.

• Be sure to keep the torque specifications presented in shop manuals. Otherwise, it could lead to the malfunction of airbag system.

• Connect the connector completely so that the lock makes the 'click' sound.

2.After installing the airbag module, check if the airbag system operates normally.

If IG is ON, the SRS indicator light should turn off after turning on for about 6 seconds.
