Steering Wheel Play Inspection

1.Align the steering wheel straight.

2.Mark the steering wheel center (A) using masking tape or equivalent.

3.Turn the steering wheel until the wheel is moved while MDPS power is 'ON', then measure the distance the steering wheel has rotated.

Standard value :0 - 30 mm (0 - 1.1811 in.) or less

4.If the steering wheel play exceeds standard value, inspect the steering column, shaft, and linkages.

Checking Stationary Steering Effort

1.Place the vehicle on the level surface.

2.Measure the power when the steering wheel starts to move using a spring scale while MDPS power is 'ON'.

Standard value : 29.4 N (3.0 kgf, 6.6 lb·ft) MAX.

3.If the measured value exceeds standard value, inspect the steering gear box or MDPS system.
